It was close to midnight when Leo climbed to the attic of the Magitek Research Facility. Ordinarily, he would not have made the trip so late at night; but with the missing Esper, and now a missing General, there had been no time to do so during the day.
There was only one room in the attic. It was small and cramped, made of metal-bonded walls. Leo opened the door and turned on the light.
A young woman, no older than twenty-five, had been sitting there in the darkness. A thick silver band circled her forehead, and around her strange, jade-colored hair.
Leo looked at her for a long time; she looked at nothing, her eyes blank.
At last Leo bowed his head. "I'm sorry," he whispered, and left, closing the door behind him. But he did not turn out the light.
