Demon Gate Introduction

By Icy Brian

Welcome to "Demon Gate." First off, I just wanted to apologize for how long it's taken me to get this started. Things have been really swamped around here lately. Before you read any farther you should be aware that this is a sequel to my Chrono Trigger fanfic "A Shadow of Evil" and my Suikoden fanfic "Resurrection." If you have played those games, I strongly recommend that you read those stories first. If you haven't played them or decide not to read the aforementioned stories (they aren't very long, and it would be to your benefit to do so,) I will try my best to summarize the characters who will be involved in "Demon Gate," along with their roles in the previous game/fanfic. This story will also feature characters from Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy 7. I have written up short, one part prologues explaining how they ended up going through the Demon Gate.

This story is undoubtedly my hardest challenge yet as a fanfic writer. A large amount of the crossovers I've read are stupid and/or pointless. It's usually that the author just brings characters together without any reason or explanation, or that some all-powerful villain gathers a bunch of good guys together simply because he doesn't like heroes. In other words, it's nothing interesting, original, or intriguing. I'm not writing this as a joke or to be goofy; this is a serious story, and one which should not be taken lightly simply because of its nature as a crossover. The majority of crossovers I've read have the same flaws within them, and I will try my best to avoid them. If I noticeably screw up and make something sound cheesy, please tell me so I know what not to do. I strongly recommend that you print this page for future reference if you forget details about a character or time period. I'm also going to provide you with pictures of the characters and eras I have them for so you can better visualize what's going on.

So you know, here is the order I recommend you read everything leading in to "Demon Gate," so you don't spoil anything for yourself:
1. "A Shadow of Evil"
2. "Resurrection"
3. "Demon Gate Introduction" up to this point.
4. "Demon Gate Prologues (FF6, FF7, & FFTactics)"
5. "Demon Gate Introduction" beyond this point.

Setting

For those of you who haven't played Chrono Trigger, here is a brief overview of the land and times where this story will take place (time travel is an important aspect of both the game and the story.) I will also list some minor characters from these times. Please not that they will not necessarily appear in this story, but I might make a reference to them, so it would help if you knew who they were. A have maps for a few of the eras, so click the time period to view them.

Prehistoric Era (64,999,999 BC): A time of primitive cavemen and reptites (small, intelligent dinosaurs.) The main village is Ioka, led by their chief, Ayla (see 'Characters' for more info on her.) Other minor characters include Kino, Ayla's boyfriend.

Dark Ages (11,999 BC)- The former Kingdom of Zeal, now lying in ruins. While it existed, Zeal Kingdom was the floating continent inhabited by the magically gifted Enlightened Ones. Now the few Enlightened Ones left live with the Earthbound (those without magical powers) in the Last Village. Another important place in the Dark Ages is North Cape, where the final battle of "A Shadow of Evil" took place. Minor characters include: Queen Zeal, the former queen of Zeal Kingdom, who was defeated by the CT team near the end of the game; Schala, Magus' sister who has been missing since the Ocean Palace was destroyed. Magus has searched for her since. Finally, Alfador, Janus(Magus)'s pet cat from when he was living in Zeal as a child. The only picture I have from this time period is from before the Ocean Palace disaster, so the layout of the land is greatly different in the pic than in the story.

Middle Ages (601 AD)- This time period contains many important places and people. First off is Guardia Castle, where King Guardia and Queen Leene live. Also living in the castle are the Chancellor, the Knight Captain, and his brother the Chef. West of Guardia Castle is the eerie Cathedral, where Yakra (a yellow monster who resembles a sort of potato-bug) was defeated. On the southern continent we find Fiona's Villa. Fiona is the woman who, with help from Robo, rebuilt the forest. In the Cafe in Choras you can sometimes find Toma, an explorer and adventurer. Magus' Castle is another important location in this time period, and is located on an island in the sea. The Denadora Mountains is where Magus killed the Knight Cyrus, and turned his friend Glenn into a frog. Glenn now resides in an underground hut in the Cursed Woods. Southeast of here is the town of Porre, where Tata lives.

Present (1001 AD)- One of the other vastly important time periods. King Guardia XXXIII lives in Guardia Castle, along with his daughter, Princess Nadia (Marle), and the Chancellor. Crono resides in the city of Truce. South of there is Lucca's house. Also living in that house are her mother, Lara, and her father, Taban. On the lower continent there can be found a Shrine dedicated to Fiona and the town of Porre. The city of Dorino has disappeared sometime between 601AD and 1,001AD. Melchior's Hut is located on the central continent. Melchior is one of the old Gurus from Zeal Kingdom who was thrown through a Time Gate after the Ocean Palace disaster. To the north-east of the hut is Medina Village, home of the Mystics and Ozzie VIII, the descendant of Ozzie from 600 AD.

The Future (2301 AD)- Essentially a clean slate. The future was a desolate wasteland in the game, however this supposedly changed after Lavos was defeated. I only used the future for one scene in "A Shadow of Evil," so this is all I can tell you about the future: Robo resides in Proto Dome. That's it. Anything else will be described as we go. Other characters in 2301 AD include Robo's girlfriend, Atropos (another robot, mind you), the leader of the humans, Doan, and a racing robot by the name of Jonny. For the reasons stated above, no pic is available for this time period.

The End of Time (Timeless)- The space-time coordinates of least resistance. The End of Time is a mysterious place which is essentially located outside all of time. There is a fence surrounding the island from the infinite void around it, and Time Gates leading to numerous times. In the center of the main room stands a lamppost, against which the Guru of Time, Gaspar leans. Behind him is a door which leads to a room where the "Master of War," Spekkio stays. Spekkio's form changes depending on the power of the person seeing him, and he has the power to bestow magic upon beings. This is an integral location in the story. Thanks to Zeal Corp for this pic.

Characters

Please note that these contain spoilers from the game and the stories which proceeded "Demon Gate." It is strongly advised that you play the game and/or read "A Shadow of Evil," "Resurrection," and the prologues for FF6, FF7, and FFTactics before reading any further. If you plan on reading them, you should probably do so before continuing. There will be a few more original characters in "Demon Gate," but since nobody else knows anything about them, you'll discover their pasts and histories as the story goes along.

Chrono Trigger

Ayla- Ayla is the chief of Ioka Village in the Prehistoric Era. She is very strong and fights with her fists, but she has no magical powers. During "A Shadow of Evil" she was wounded by Omek, and is currently in a coma at the End of Time.

Crono- The hero of Chrono Trigger. He lives in the year 1,001 AD along with his girlfriend, Marle and his best friend, Lucca. He was restored to life with the power of a Chrono Trigger after being killed by Lavos during the game. Crono fights with a katana (the Rainbow or Swallow, depending on the situation) and uses Lightning magic. He was out of action during most of "A Shadow of Evil" after being abducted by Omek. He was rescued by Lucca, Robo, and Glenn, and rejoined the team. After being defeated by Omek, Crono was pulled into the Demon Gate along with Marle.

Dalton- A pirate-like warrior who is an excellent swordsman and has the ability to summon stone golems. He is a former leader of Zeal's army, but vanished into a gate leading to his Golem Dimension after being defeated on the Blackbird in the game. Now he has resurfaced as an ally of Omek's, more powerful and vengeful than ever. After attaining victory and opening the Demon Gate, he willingly jumps into the portal along with Omek.

Epoch- Not a character, but an important part of the story nonetheless. Epoch is a time machine which the characters use to travel from era to era. It can carry up to five people at a time. Another method used to travel through time is by using the Gate Key which was invented by Lucca.

Flea- A gender-confused Mystic who seems to have a hard time deciding whether she is female or male (for both convenience and the confusion factor, I'm saying that she is female.) Flea is one of Ozzie's best soldiers, using a sword and Fire magic. She seeks vengeance after Magus left the Mystics to pursue his own interests.

Glenn- This valiant swordsman in the form of a frog (due to a spell placed on him by Magus years ago) is a formidable opponent. His fighting skills are top-notch, bearing Water magic and the powerful sword, the Masamune. At one time he had been hunting down Magus for killing his friend Cyrus, but after realizing that Magus' death would not bring him back, Glenn chose to let go of the past. Before being abducted by Omek, he left a mystical scythe from the Kingdom of Zeal with Magus (the scythe is now in Melchior's possession.) Glenn was pulled into the Demon Gate along with Tata after being beaten by Omek and Dalton.

Lucca- A brilliant scientist who fights with a gun and Fire magic. She invented a Gate Key which can control the Gates to allow the person(s) using it to travel from era to era. After being tricked by Omek she was captured, but later escaped to free Crono. She was pulled into the Demon gate after the final battle at North Cape.

Magus- A mysterious wizard with a complex past. Magus fights with a scythe and Shadow magic. He was once known as Janus, the Prince of Zeal. However, after the Ocean Palace disaster he was thrown through a Gate to the Middle Ages. There, he was taken in and raised by Ozzie, Flea, and Slash. Years later he met up with his father, Omek, who began to help train him. When he became too powerful, Omek attempted to kill him. Ozzie, Flea, and Slash got to him before Omek had the chance to seal his fate. After a battle with Crono, Glenn, and Marle at his castle, Magus was tossed back in time to Zeal Kingdom. Using his knowledge of the future, he posed as a Prophet. Omek resurfaced and the two fought. During the battle, Magus sliced the side of Omek's face and dropped him off the side of the floating island, thinking him dead. Now, nearly two years since their last encounter, Omek has returned. After the battle at North Cape, Magus was pulled into the Demon Gate. The only thing on his mind is ensuring the death of the man who was once his father.

Marle- The Princess of Guardia in 1,001 AD. She is very adventurous and hates being cooped up in the castle. Her real name is Nadia, but when she first met Crono, now her boyfriend, she introduced herself as Marle, and has gone by that ever since. Her weapon of choice is the crossbow, and she uses Ice magic. She spent most of her time during "A Shadow of Evil" helping Magus. In the end, she was pulled into the Demon Gate along with Crono.

Masa & Mune- A pair of aliens first seen in Zeal Kingdom. Masa is more of a physical fighter, while Mune fights more with Wind magic. They are a strange pair, and can turn up pretty much wherever they like. Their true intentions are as of yet unknown.

Omek- The main villain of "A Shadow of Evil." Omek fights with a sword and various types of magic, including the abilities to travel through time at will, shapeshifting, and numerous types of elemental magic. In the Dark Ages long ago, he was the glorious King of Zeal. After a strange object crashed into the earth (see "SoE Ch. 7,") his entire outlook was changed. He became a tyrant and, after ordering his son Janus to death, was banished from the land. Omek wound up in the Middle Ages, where he once again met up with his son and began to train him. Realizing he was becoming too strong, Omek stabbed him in the back. He returned to Zeal where he ran into his son once again, who was this time disguised as a Prophet. The two battled, and Magus ended up slicing Omek's face and dropping him off the floating island. Almost two years after this event, Omek has returned, his face scarred and a glass eye where his left once was. He was attempting to find the Demon Staffs so that he could open the portal which crosses between dimensions, known as the Demon Gate. His true motives for doing so are not yet known. Omek had abducted most of the members of the CT team before they managed to escape. After defeating the heroes at North Cape along with Dalton, he jumped into the Demon Gate. Omek is an original character of mine whom you won't find in the game.

Ozzie- The leader of the Mystics. A bit of a coward himself, he will run from a fight if given the chance. His attacks consist of Lightning magic and barriers. Along with Flea and Slash, his two best warriors, he wants Magus dead for betraying them.

Robo- A powerful robot who hails from the Future. He has no magical abilities, but has several strong attacks and, thanks to an improvement by Lucca, can travel through time with a thought. During the final battle of "A Shadow of Evil," his main power cord was cut, shutting him offline before pulling his still form through the Demon Gate.

Slash- Another Mystic serving under Ozzie's command, Slash is an expert swordsman who has nary been defeated. His arsenal also consists of Ice magic. Magus' leaving them did not sit well with him either, and he too wants the wizard dead.

Tata- A young boy who was first mistaken for the legendary hero, Tata fights valiantly with Earth magic and a sword fashioned for him by the Guru of Life, Melchior. He joined the team after Omek, disguised as Magus, attacked his father. After being stabbed and wounded by Dalton, Tata was pulled into the Demon Gate along with Glenn at the end of "A Shadow of Evil."

Final Fantasy 6

Celes- A former soldier of the Empire, this beautiful warrior is an excellent magic user. At times she may seem a bit tentative, while at other times she will rush right into something. She was pulled into the Demon Gate while flying on Setzer's airship.

Cyan- A brave and valiant knight who has endured many hardships, including the fall of his castle and the deaths of his wife and son. He is a magnificent swordsman, and fights with honor and valor. He was pulled into the Demon Gate while on the Phantom Train with Shadow.

Locke- An adventurous explorer who is constantly searching for treasure. He becomes irate when called a thief, and often runs into battle without thinking. Locke is very quick, clever, and guile, and can get himself out of most situations. While exploring a cave, Locke came across an elaborate treasure chest that unleashed the Demon Gate and pulled him in.

Mog- Mog is the leader of the moogles, a race of small, white creatures with red wings. He is very brave and powerful for his size, and should not be underestimated. Moogles look out for the well-being of others, and will always lend a hand to those who need it. After Locke was pulled into the Demon Gate, Mog jumped in after him.

Setzer- A wandering gambler who gambles not only his money, but his life as well. He is daring and brave, and not afraid to do something outlandish. While piloting his airship with Celes, he was pulled into the Demon Gate, ship and all.

Shadow- An honorable ninja who will do nearly anything if the price is right. He never betrays someone he is under contract to, and always gets the job done. After Cyan was pulled into the Demon Gate, Shadow followed him in.

While buying weapons from Kovac, he decided to join forces with him, Yuber, and Vara. Arek is a fierce swordsman with extremely powerful Fire magic. During the final battle of "Resurrection," Arek was pulled into the Demon Gate with Yuber, Vara, and Neclord. Arek is an original character of mine who was not found in the game.

She and Pahn share a love/hate relationship, and are often bickering. During the final battle of "Resurrection," Cleo was pulled into the Demon Gate along with Pahn.

Clive- A mysterious man whose past is shrouded in secrecy, Clive joined the Liberation Army in hopes that they might help him to find a woman from his past whom he has been hunting down. He shows no fear, and risks his life without caring whether he lives or dies. After hearing of Vara's arrival, he sought out Pesmerga in an attempt to stop her. During the final battle of "Resurrection," Clive was pulled into the Demon Gate.

Kage- A ninja of few words who will take most any job if the price is right. Kage can appear virtually out of thin air and vanish without a trace. He fights mainly with ninja stars, relying largely on his speed and agility. Kage joins the team under contract to help in the fight against Yuber, Vara, Kovac, and Arek. During the final battle of "Resurrection," Kage was pulled into the Demon Gate.

Kovac- A young man of nobility and wealth, Kovac is a dangerous warrior with a thirst for power. He has had his problems in the past with Pahn and Cleo, and wants to see them dead. In exchange for one of the staffs and his services, Yuber and Vara gave him immense control over the element of Lightning and a priceless sword. Afterwards, he convinces Arek to join him, and they steal the second staff from Pesmerga. During the final battle of "Resurrection," Kovac was pulled through the Demon Gate. Pahn- Pahn is a tough-as-nails, wise-cracking brawler whose temper and wits will often get him into a fight. He served under one of the Empire's Imperial Generals, along with Cleo, before joining the Liberation Army. After a confrontation he and Cleo had with Kovac and his men, Pahn discovered one of the Demon Staffs. During the final battle of "Resurrection," his staff reacted with the other two, unleashing the Demon Gate. He and Cleo were pulled in shortly after the Gate was opened.

Pesmerga- An enigmatic warrior and the son of a Dragon Knight, Pesmerga is the sworn enemy of Yuber. After a brief skirmish with him and Vara, Pesmerga joins Clive in an effort to stop them. Once joined by Pahn, the two are at each other's throats. En route to Neclord's Castle, he was attacked by Kovac and Arek, who stole the second staff from him. He was pulled into the Demon Gate during the final battle of "Resurrection."

Vara- A sorceress of whom little is known, she and Yuber spread havoc throughout the land in their search for the Demon Staffs. After resurrecting Neclord using two of the staffs, the third reacts and opens the Demon Gate. Just before it closes, she is pulled in along with Yuber, Neclord, and Arek. Vara is an original character of mine who was not found in the game.

Yuber- The Black Knight, Yuber is a cold-hearted, fierce warrior who will do whatever it takes to get ahead. His history with Pesmerga remains unknown, as does most everything else about him, but the two want nothing more than the other's demise. After joining forces with Vara, the two wreak havoc throughout the kingdom. After enlisting the services of Kovac, he and Vara go to Neclord's Castle to revive the vampire warrior. The intervention of the third staff opens the Demon Gate, which consequently ends up pulling him in with Vara, Neclord, and Arek.
