Chrono Trigger Story Part 2

Step 11: Tata and the Frog

Crono, Lucca and Marle journey downwards to meet the hero, who is rumored to be there. They reach the town of Porre, which is the hometown of the hero. After searching for information, they find that the hero is a small boy named Tata. They also discover he has gone to the Denadoro Mountains to find the legendary Masamune, which is a sword, that is the only thing that can defeat Magus.

As soon as they reach the Denadoro Mountains to follow him, they see Tata running away that the mountains are too dangerous. Crono decides that they must go and find the Masamune themselves.

After a hike through the mountains, they finally reach a cave where they see 2 small boys playing. They also see a broken piece of the Masamune, but as they reach to take it, the boys stop them. They say that THEY are physical embodiments of the Masamune. They also say that for anyone to get the Masamune, they must defeat the boys in more powerful vessels.

A fierce struggle ensues and Crono wins. They receive the broken Masamune and decide to pay another visit to Tata.

When the group goes to his house, Tata admits that he is no hero. He says that a strange frog dropped a medal and when he picked it up, everyone called him a hero. He gives the Medal to the heroes and says the frog is in the Cursed Woods.

The group goes to the Cursed Woods and sees Frog living there. Frog refuses to say that he is the hero, despite Crono finding the other piece of the Masamune. Lucca studies the hilt of the sword and realizes it says "Melchior" on it.

The group goes back to the present and finds Melchior again. Melchior says that he can fix the Masamune, but he needs some of the Dreamstone, a precious rock that disappeared many, many years ago. Melchior says the Masamune is made of Dreamstone and none exist in the present.

The team goes to the End of Time and notice a new portal that goes to Mystic Mountain in 65,000,000 BC. They think that it may be a place to find the Dreamstone and jump in.

.

Step 12: The Dreamstone

Crono, Marle and Lucca fall to the ground and find that strange green creatures are running around everywhere- and they attack Crono! They try to fight them off, but they become hopelessly outnumbered.

Suddenly someone bursts out of nowhere. Within seconds she kills off two of the creatures- named reptites. Crono, Lucca and Marle fight off the remaining beings and the woman comes to them. She says they are strong and she likes them. She says her name is Ayla and when Crono brings up the issue of a stone, she says there are plenty of stones where she is and they can have whatever they want.

That night, a party is thrown in Crono, Lucca and Marle's honor. Ayla says that the Dreamstone is very rare and Crono must beat her in a soup-eating contest to get the stone. Crono wins and Ayla gives it to him.

The next morning Crono awakes to find that the Dreamstone has been stolen, along with Lucca's Gate Key. Not only can they not fix the Masamune; they can't even get out of the prehistoric era!

Crono notices that there are odd-looking footsteps and reports it to Ayla, who is also the chief of the Ioka village.

.

Step 13: Footsteps! Follow

Ayla is shocked when she sees the footprints. She says they are that of reptites and vows to help Crono retrieve the stolen items. She follows Crono and Marle to the Forest Maze.

At the Forest Maze they find Kino, Ayla's best friend and heir to be the leader of the Ioka tribe. He says that he was jealous of Crono's new popularity and he tried to get back at Crono. Ayla assures him that she still likes him and asks for Crono's stuff back. Kino says that the Reptites stole the items from him, and Ayla's search continues.

After weaving their way through the Forest Maze, Crono, Ayla and Marle make it to the Reptite Lair. They make their way through the holes and find Nizbel and Azala, the leaders of the Reptites. Azala sics Nizbel on Crono and the rest. They defeat Nizbel and Azala gives them their stuff, then runs.

Ayla says she is not ready to leave the prehistoric era yet and bids farewell to the heroes as they go back to Melchior with the Dreamstone.

.

Step 14: The Masamune!

Melchior is astounded when Crono shows up with the Dreamstone. He starts to work on fixing the Masamune with Robo, while Crono and Marle wait.

After a while, Melchior and Robo unveil the fixed Masamune to Crono. Crono brings the Masamune to Frog, who tells them what happened to him with Magus.

It turns out that Frog as a human named Glenn teamed up with the champion knight of Guardia, Cyrus. The two search together for the Masamune and they encounter Magus and Ozzie on their way to get it in the Denadoro Mountains.

Magus challenges Cyrus and kills him. Ozzie tells Magus to have some fun with Glenn, and he responds by turning Glenn into a Frog. Frog later found the Hero's Medal, which belonged to Cyrus. Ten years have passed since the incident.

Frog is doubtful, even with the Masamune, but he agrees to help Crono get rid of the Magus.

Frog leads the way to Magus's castle, which involves breaking through a secret passage with the awesome Masamune. Before long the team is at the front gates of Magus's Lair.

.

Step 15: Magus's Castle

Crono finds out that he has to go through Magus's 3 henchmen: Flea, Slash and Ozzie. Flea and Slash fall to Crono, Frog and Marle, but Ozzie sends Crono on a wild goose chase through Magus's entire castle.

The team finally corners Ozzie at a corner, who is able to counter with a huge ice barrier. Crono notices several trap latches in the room and one of them happens to open the ground where Ozzie has planted himself. Before he can react, Ozzie sent falling to his doom.

Crono finds another teleporting device that leads straight to Magus. A deadly struggle ensues, as Crono is trying to kill Magus off before he can bring Lavos to life. Magus says that Crono is a fool and that he is only "Summoning" Lavos and that he has been alive for millions of years!

Before anyone has a chance to die, a Gate of enormous size opens up and everyone is thrown in a different direction in time.

.

Step 16: Forward to the Past

Crono has a vision of being in bed, and Marle is his wife? Everything starts going crazy when.

Crono awakes with his entire group in Ayla's hut with Kino. Unfortunately, when Frog asks about Magus, Kino says he hasn't seen anyone like that. Kino says Ayla has gone to Laruba to work with the natives there when a soldier bursts in and says the Laruba tribe is burning.

Crono, Lucca and Marle climb up the forest where the Laruba Ruins are. All they see is devastation, but they see Ayla speaking with the old man, who says the Reptites followed Ayla to their secret hideout and burned it. Ayla says she is determined to defeat the Reptites once and for all, with or without the help of Laruba. She then says she is going to find some Dactyls to get to the Tyrano Lair. Crono follows.

.

Step 17: Unnatural Selection?

Crono follows Ayla to the summit of the Dactyl nest, where he sees her summoning Dactyls to carry her to the Tyrano Lair. When Ayla finds them, she asks them to help and Crono agrees. Crono and Marle climb aboard the backs of two other Dactyls and they set off.

Ayla says the first thing they do when they reach the Tyrano Lair is free Kino and the Laruba natives. They wrestle through the defenses and Kino, along with the other people, is freed. Kino shows them a secret passage he saw and runs.

Crono, Ayla and Marle continue to fight their way through the huge castle, and soon they find themselves in another deadly duel with Nizbel, though this time they manage to kill it. Crono follows the path and soon is met again with Azala, but with an enormous Black Tyrano.

Another fight ensues, and the Black Tyrano is killed, leaving Azala wounded badly. He says that the humans will not rule the land if the Reptites can' t, though, and summons Lavos from deep outer space. He says that Lavos will dig deep into the Earth, building power for millions of years, until it bursts free, killing all and destroying the Earth. Lavos smashes onto the Tyrano Lair and Crono's party just manages to escape on the Dactyls. The entire Lair is demolished and turned into rubble.

After Crono investigates the mess and he finds a Gate. He leaps into it and is brought into a new time.

.

Step 18: The Magic Kingdom

Crono, Ayla and Marle are brought into a furious storm in a barren land. After wandering around for a bit, they find a beam and light and walk into it. Suddenly they are in a lush, wonderful land in the skies! Crono ventures to a city named Enhasa, and the people there say that the land above-named Zeal Kingdom- is directly to the continent below the sky, which is named Terra Continent. They also say it is the year 12,000 BC. Crono continues to explore and finds another beam.

Crono finds himself back on Terra, with more area to explore. Sure enough, he finds another beam and is brought back onto the land of Zeal. Crono, Ayla and Marle visit another town above ground named Kajar. The people there say that Zeal Palace is a place to speak with the queen, though people say she is not acting like she usually does.

Crono weaves through a series of strange caves and is brought to Zeal Palace, where he is able to see the palace personally. When he arrives, he sees two people dressed in purple and with odd blue hair. One is a small boy, and the other is a young, beautiful woman. They appear to be brother and sister. The younger one, who gives his name to be Janus, tells his sister Schala that their mother the queen is going crazy for power. Schala says nothing is wrong when a messenger comes saying the queen demands Schala's presence.

Crono continued to investigate, and finds the Mammon Machine, a giant machine that is the source of great power. Marle finds that her pendant is affected by it and she uses her pendant to be powered up.

Later the group follows Schala and sees her use a special pendant to open a sealed door. Marle is able to use her pendant the same way and continued to follow her.

There they see Schala is being forced to bring her mother Queen Zeal, her chief enforcer Dalton and her advisor the Prophet power. When they see Crono, they throw a Golem at Crono and tell the Golem to kill Crono and the group. Crono defeats the Golem but the Prophet still imprisons the group. After the Prophet forces the group to tell their story, the Prophet tells Schala to take them and seal up the Gate where they cam from, so that they can never return. When Schala refuses, the Prophet threatens to kill Crono, and Schala is forced to obey.

.

Step 19: Break the Seal

Back at 65,000,000 BC, Marle remembers seeing the special seal in the future. The group goes to the End of Time and sees the old man, who tells how he got there.

It seems that he was part of a trio that aided the queen called the Gurus. When she began her lust for power, they refused to help her and Zeal threw them all away in different directions. The one named Melchior landed in 1000 AD and stayed there for the time being. Another one named Gaspar fell into the End of Time. The third, called Belthasar, fell into the future into a dome called the Keeper's Dome. The group goes to the future to look for Belthasar.

Crono, Ayla and Marle defeat the guardian of the Sewer Access, Sir Krawlie and continue their way. They find a dome they have not seen before, named the Keeper's Dome. They find a strange Nu there, but no Belthasar. They continue to explore and find a strange ship. The Nu begins to talk when they find it! It also has a story.

Belthasar landed at the Keeper's Dome and implanted his mind into that of a Nu. He continued to build the Epoch, an actual time machine! Belthasar says they can have it with one request: He asks them to turn the Nu off and shut Belthasar's incredible mind off for all eternity. Crono does so and Belthasar begins an eternity-long sleep in a Nu.

.

Step 20: The Guru on Mt. Woe

Crono uses the Epoch to travel back to 12,000 BC and go to a land called Terra Cave. The natives there say that a guru has been imprisoned from Zeal at the top of Mount Woe, which is hanging onto the land by a chain, literally. Crono finds he must begin a climb up Mt. Woe to find him.

Crono has another dangerous quest, which takes him through the lair of Beasts, fighting gargoyles and maneaters and climbing up a steep mountain connected only by chains. When Crono, Ayla and Marle reach the summit, they must fight Zeal's new guardian, Giga Gaia. Crono defeats him and Melchior is freed.

He says that Zeal must be stopped if the world is to be saved. Suddenly, with the destruction of Giga Gaia, the chains collapse and break off. The mountain plows into the Earth and creates a huge tidal wave for the inhabitants of Terra Cave.
